Don\u2019t leave Artemonas without buying the local anise-flavored biscuits!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exambela: Take a walk in Tselementes&#8217; village<\/strong><br \/>\nBefore it became a book, Nikolaos Tselementes was a remarkable cook who was born and lived in Exambela, Sifnos. Just one kilometer outside Apollonia, Exambela village is not only perfect for afternoon walks in its alleys but also to admire the Byzantine Art Museum housed in the Monastery of Panagia Vrysi and the ancient tower from the 6th century BC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Herronissos<\/strong><br \/>\nDon\u2019t leave Sifnos without seeing Herronissos up close. In several points of the island, there are isolated sandy shores, rocky coasts, pebble beaches, and organized beaches, two of which are awarded the Blue Flag. Most beaches are accessible by road, while some can be reached via picturesque paths or by sea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kamares<\/strong><br \/>\nKamares is the most famous and particularly beloved beach, which has been awarded the Blue Flag in recent years. At Kamares, you will find a large sandy beach, which is organized in several areas, as many restaurants and cafes in the area have tables and sunbeds on the sand. It is an ideal choice for families, as its crystal-clear waters are very shallow and calm. The tamarisk trees reach down to the sand, and the beach bars add a cheerful note to the already heightened summer mood.<\/p>\n<p><button class=\"wonder-readmore\">+ RAD MORE<\/button><\/p>\n<div class=\"wonder-readmore-content\">\n<p><strong>Platis Gialos<\/strong><br \/>\nPlatis Gialos is one of the largest sandy beaches on the island and the most popular choice for visitors. Platis Gialos beach is awarded the Blue Flag every year by the European Union, meeting the program&#8217;s strict criteria. Crystal-clear waters lazily caress the sandy beach, making water games a must. Among the area&#8217;s attractions is the White Tower, located 1.5 kilometers northeast of the beach, one of the 77 ancient towers \u2013 beacons of the island and one of the best-preserved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vathi<\/strong><br \/>\nVathi is located in the west, 10 kilometers from the capital Apollonia. At the &#8220;Pounta of Polemiko,&#8221; the northern edge of the bay, archaeological excavations have uncovered prehistoric settlements and tombs. It is one of the most beautiful and largest sandy beaches on the island, with the protected &#8220;sand lilies&#8221; blooming near August 15th. The settlement is also popular for its many hidden taverns that serve fresh fish right by the water.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faros<\/strong><br \/>\nA sheltered harbor and fishing village 7 km from Apollonia, Faros was Sifnos&#8217;s port until 1883 and got its name from the ancient tower that once stood on the beach. Glyfo Beach, named after a well with brackish water that has existed there since ancient times, is on the right side of Faros beach. East of Faros beach is the secluded sandy beach &#8220;Fasolou,&#8221; with views of the Stavros Monastery and Chrysopigi. (Accessible by asphalt road leading to Faros or by a path starting from the Faros harbor)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chrysopigi<\/strong><br \/>\nThe rocks of Chrysopigi are a favorite spot for many swimmers. East of the church is the sandy beach of &#8220;Apokofto&#8221; with its turquoise waters and unique buildings on the sand, including two restaurants. From there, a paved path leads to Glyfo beach in Faros. West of the church are the &#8220;Saoures,&#8221; a small secluded pebble beach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Herronissos<\/strong><br \/>\nHerronissos is the northernmost beach on the island, 15 kilometers from Apollonia. It is a picturesque fishing village with a small sandy beach. Here you will find taverns, a small grocery store, a few rental rooms, and a traditional pottery workshop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vroulidia<\/strong><br \/>\nA small pebble beach 14 kilometers from Apollonia and about one kilometer before Herronissos. On the beach, there are two caf\u00e9-restaurants that offer umbrellas and sunbeds for bathers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fikiada<\/strong><br \/>\nA small sandy beach between Platis Gialos and the bay of Vathi. Next to the beach is the chapel of Saint George, and behind it is one of the oldest olive groves on the island with traces of an old cart road.
